Smooth morning rush hour expected after Monday’s record

Motoring organisations expect Tuesday’s morning rush hour to pass off smoothly following the record jams on Monday evening.

Most roads have been cleared of snow and many drivers left home earlier than normal in an effort to beat the queues. But local roads may still be icy, the ABWB warned.
At its peak, the Monday evening rush hour totalled 880 km of jams, a record for evening traffic and the second worst recorded congestion in Dutch motoring history. On a normal Monday evening, the jams are generally no longer than 200 km.
The ANWB said Monday’s jams developed as drivers reduced speeds as snow moved in from the east. Many stoppages were over 25 km long.
Signalling problems have caused some delays to rail services around Gouda but there are no other problems reported on the trains.
