Private capital group set to take over lingerie chain Hunkemöller
Lingerie retail chain Hunkemöller is on the verge of finding a new owner, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Tuesday. Private capital groups PAI and CCMP Capital are the most likely candidates, the paper says.
In total, four private equity groups have made a bid for Hunkemöller, the third retail chain to be sold by Maxeda, the paper says. It bases its claims on sources close to the talks.
The bids are likely to be just under €300m, or over eight times the company’s gross earnings, the paper says.
Expansion
Hunkemöller has 400 outlets in 13 countries including the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Russia.
Retail strategist Ron Cijs told the FD he did not understand why there is so much interest in the company. ‘It is a fairly middle of the road format with a name which foreigners can’t pronounce,’ he said.
Once the sale has been finalised Maxeda still needs to find a buyer for fashion chain M&S Mode. It has already sold the V&D and Bijenkorf department stores.
