Phosphorus firm investigated for dioxine, heavy metal emissions

The public prosecution department has launched a criminal investigation into Zeeland phosphorus company Thermphos, news agency ANP reports.

The company is suspected of breaking environmental and safety rules by emitting four times as much dioxine and heavy metals as legally permitted.
The company is still being investigated following an accident at the plant in 2009 in which two workers died while carrying out maintenance work.
Vlissingen-based Thermphos is one of the biggest phosphorus producers in the world.
