Labour wants inquiry into ‘near bankrupt’ defence ministry

The Labour party (PvdA) has called for a parliamentary inquiry into defence ministry spending following the news that up to 10,000 jobs are to go.

The cuts show that the department is ‘almost bankrupt’, MP Angelien Eijsink said. She plans to put the plan to parliament when it debates the defence ministry cuts on Monday.
Defence minister Hans Hillen said on Thursday up to 10,000 defence jobs could go and that the armed forces will not be excluded. Next year the ministry has to find savings of €200m, rising to €635m by 2015.
