Recovery continues at Rotterdam port

Rotterdam port handled 13% more tonnes of cargo in the first nine months of this year than during the same period in 2009.

All areas of the port’s activities showed improvement, the port authority said on Friday.
In total, Rotterdam handled 321 million tonnes of cargo. The throughput of metal ores and scrap rose sharpest at 112% but dry bulk goods also showed strong growth with a 31% increase.
In August, it emerged Rotterdam had shown the fastest growth of the three most important sea ports in north-west Europe, beating off Antwerp and Hamburg.
