No Sunday shopping change a concession to SGP, says Rutte

The new coalition agreement’s commitment to not changing Sunday shopping regulations is a concession to the fundamentalist Christian party SGP, VVD party leader Mark Rutte said on Saturday.

The VVD wanted to expand Sunday shopping – currently confined to 12 days a year in non-tourist areas – but agreed not to change the rules because of the SGP’s opposition, Nos tv quoted Rutte as saying.
The SGP, which opposes votes for women and believes homosexuality is a sin, has two seats in parliament which could prove crucial the new coalition government. It has a majority of just one.
