Corus, created in 1999 through the merger of Dutch company Hoogovens and British Steel, was taken over by Tata in 2007.
Tata Steel has a workforce of 80,000 worldwide. In the Netherlands, it owns the Hoogovens steelworks in IJmuiden.
The company said the changeover will be ‘completed gradually to avoid unnecessary expense and wastage’.
