Dutch police officer Tom Driessen, appointed number two at the pan-European police agency Europol six months ago, is at the centre of a row over patronage, the Telegraaf claims on Thursday.

The paper says Driessen has been accused of using his influence to get friends from the national Dutch force appointed to plum jobs, where they can benefit from lower taxes and generous allowances.
And Europol has launched a major investigation into claims that Driessen leaked information about the selection procedures to a number of officers so they would find it easier to get through them, the paper says, quoting agency sources.
Driessen is currently on sick leave. This is for ‘pure medical reasons’ he told the paper, denying claims he had been sent home.
