Former CDA prime minister Ruud Lubbers is new cabinet negotiator

Queen Beatrix has given former CDA prime minister Ruud Lubbers the job of working out what to do next to break the stalemate surrounding the cabinet formation process.

Two potential cabinets have failed and now, 42 days after the election, it is unclear what will happen next..
Beatrix has commissioned Lubbers to ‘investigate what realistic options’ there are for forming a cabinet which can count on a ‘fruitful working relationship’ with [the lower house of] parliament.
Options
The Telegraaf says Lubbers will look at all the options for putting together a majority government and will brief the queen ‘in the very short term’.
Lubbers was prime minister between 1982 and 1994 and headed governments involving both the VVD and Labour.
The Telegraaf says the failure of the ‘purple plus’ option based on the VVD and Labour means the CDA now has a crucial role in the formation process.
