Two housing corporation bosses face fraud charges

Amsterdam housing corporation De Key is taking legal action against two former directors for possible fraud. Both were home on gardening leave but have now been sacked, Nos tv reports

The two are accused of ‘misleading’ De Key’s supervisory board about several land deals using intermediaries who made large profits, costing the corporation €3.2m.
A similar investigation into using intermediaries in land purchases is under way at Brabant housing corporation Brabant Wonen.
Problems
Last year, the head of the giant Rochdale corporation was sacked after allegations that he was involved in dubious property transactions. And in 2008 the Rotterdam-based Woonbron was put under ministerial supervision following its multi-million euro investment in renovating a cruise liner.
Housing corporations provide most of the country’s rent-controlled housing. In total, they rent out 2.4 million homes – some 34% of the national housing stock.
Traditionally set up to provide cheap housing, they are increasingly involved in property development outside the social housing sector.
