Some 50 flights an hour from Schiphol, cancellations continue

Some 50 aircraft were taking of and landing from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport every hour on Wednesday morning following six days of disruption due to the cloud of volcanic ash over Europe, according to news agency reports.

But the normal average of 70 flights an hour is not being reached because airports in Germany and Scandinavia and parts of Britain are still closed.
Airlines
Charter airline Transavia said it had increased flight frequency in order to bring back stranded holidaymakers and expects to return to normal schedules on Thursday.
KLM said it has carried out all of its intercontinental flights and 70% of European ones so far on Wednesday.
Ryanair, which makes extensive use of Eindhoven airport, is to resume flights at 5am on Thursday, apart from to Britain and Ireland.
Schedules
The biggest problem facing airlines at the moment is that their aircraft are in the wrong place to make scheduled flights, airline economist Hugo Roos told the Volkskrant.
The number of people stranded at Schiphol while in transit has now been reduced to around 200.
The airport authority has also announced that travellers who face huge car parking bills because of the disruption will not have to pay for the extra days.
