Man fined for 'burn the church' posterTuesday 27 April 2010 A 24-year-old man and self-confessed satanist has been given a suspended fine of €250 for hanging posters in the windows of his home with the text 'Burn the Church', the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday. The court in Utrecht ruled the man had incited violence against churches. The man himself, David P from Mijdrecht, said he had nothing against Christians but did have difficulty with they way they try to force people to convert, the paper said. The court said that even though P did not mean people should literally burn down churches, he had hung the poster in a prominent place and this could encourage others to set churches on fire. © DutchNews.nl
Why it is "freedom of thought" when you say "burn the mosques" but it is a crime when you say "burn the churchs" .. I'm an atheist and against the concept of religion but I'm looking for some honesty at least. By Oz | April 27, 2010 3:57 PM Religions are merely crutches for those who cannot deal with reality. By Jamie Anderson | April 27, 2010 4:02 PM Paul Martin is a wise man, he speaks the truth, i am sick and fed up of christianity proclaiming me to an eternity in a firey hell, George Carlin said it best about religion By adhd | April 27, 2010 4:24 PM Well said Paul, but if the poster had said "Burn the Mosque" then he would have been fined a lot more and sent to jail, as well as receiving numerous death threats. By Vogon Poet | April 27, 2010 4:31 PM Just about anything COULD encourage others to burn down churches. For example a news report on CNN discussing the current Vatican sex scandals COULD encourage this, so then we should penalize CNN for reporting? Passively putting up a sign alone does not come anywhere near to actively inciting people to violence. Let us get some perspective! By Matt | April 27, 2010 5:39 PM What prompts to violence? What prompts to peace? By Dolphin Peters | April 28, 2010 10:51 AM As if in a non religious community people are wise, mature and can deal with reality!!! gimme a break.. Human beings have used every pretext under the sun to be violent to one another, including Religion. Why not call it what it is...Plain stupid Human Nature. By Saladin | April 28, 2010 5:13 PM While I don't agree with the way some Christian churches have been behaving, from the Vatican covering up child abuse on the one hand to the heavy-handed evangelism of some American sects, I find the idea of Satanism even more scary. One historical fact which tends to be forgotten is that the Nazis were heavily into the occult (i.e. black magic) and they seem to have used this to gain power. Incidentally, I have never heard of anyone being murdered for being an atheist. I don't really think that tolerance is such a bad thing. By Peter G Mackie | April 29, 2010 2:15 PM

What about us who are smart enough to not need silly religions. We are persecuted by christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus... When the world realizes that ALL religions are false then we can finally unite the human race. until then we are stuck in the dark ages of spooks, magicians, witch doctors and killing someone for NOT believing in your fake god.
