Charity fraud link to director’s gambling habit

Amsterdam police are investigating the disappearance of millions of euros from charty group ChildRight, which works to prevent the exploitation of children, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The paper says it has evidence that most of the money raised by the charity and its volunteers did not end up helping children in third world countries. For example, a project to build 10 schools in Sri Lanka following the tsunami resulted in just three sheds being erected.
Now sources have told the paper police suspect much of the missing money was used by former director Raymond C to fund his gambling addiction. Police have confirmed an investigation is under way.
