Wilders' PVV in opposition in Almere

Thursday 18 March 2010

The anti-Islam party PVV has not been able to find enough parties prepared to form a coalition administration in Almere, local party leader Raymond de Roon said on Wednesday evening.

The PVV emerged as the largest party in the new town following the local elections.

'In the meetings I have held with the other eight parties it has emerged that they are unwilling to make concesions to PVV voters,' De Roon was reported as saying.

Among issues the party considers crucial are the introduction of urban commandos on the streets, a headscarf ban in public buildings and local tax cuts.

De Roon said the right-wing Liberals VVD, seen by many as the most likely partner for the PVV, wanted a broad coalition of PVV, VVD and Labour, which was second in the local vote. 'This is an illusion, given Labour's position,' De Roon said.

instead of demonising him (even though he deserves it, he also deserves political respect for being an MP) this is how you defeat Wilders and his extreme views.

This is the strength of the PR system - it may promote even the lunatic fringe into the political arena, but ultimately concession-politics gets into power.

Unless of course there are enough loonies to form a majority, but I think if you take away the reactionary extreme right NL is a moderate country, politically

The introduction of urban commandos on the streets it is a very new proposal to the Netherlands society. But is very old for German society. It played a key role in Germany in the 1920s and 1930s... with all well known consequences.

Oh what a shame. Now the PVV will sit in opposition and cry foul at anything and everything. They should be put into the driving seat so that the persons who believe in their policies can get a taste of how empty the policies are.
One year of PVV government will cause enough grief to ensure we will not see them again.

It is disgusting that the other parties will not be flexible to the PVV who came out top in that city. Clearly liberals are unable to see anything but their own erroneous ways.

It is the liberals who got us into this mess and if the police cannot handle the problem in our streets then maybe the commando's will.

Who are these "commando's", are they trained military man? Don't we have the police to do that line of work?!! I like to suggest giving the police more training and authority and backup power to do their job correctly!! So improve you're justice system and support you're police force!! This seems to be a must!!! Maybe that will help to get the political parties working together!! No political party street enforcers in Holland!! That would only create a civil war among the citizens in the cities of the Netherlands! Good luck Holland, you need it!!

New York had its "commandos"
They called them Guardian Angels.
They are a great success.

Juan,
Was it the other parties who were inflexible over a headscarf ban? Get real! And please, no vigilantes, just increase police budgets if there is a law & order issue, we need just one agency.
