Rush hour lanes do cut traffic jams: ministerTuesday 09 March 2010 Traffic jams on the A12 motorway have been cut sharply following the introduction of a special rush hour lane, according to caretaker transport minister Camiel Eurlings. The motorway, which runs from Arnhem and Utrecht to The Hague, is a notorious jam hotspot. But the introduction of an 11 km extra lane from Zoetermeer to The Hague has had a major effect, Eurlings said. 'Evening rush hour jams have more or less disappeared while morning ones have been cut by 30%,' he told reporters. Rush hour lanes are only open during peak periods and when traffic volumes are higher than 3,000 vehicles an hour. Eurlings was speaking at the start of work on a new 18 km rush hour lane between Woerden and Gouda. © DutchNews.nl
How about moving towns and cities further apart? Wouldn't that thin out the traffic? By Michael Dawkes | March 9, 2010 3:01 PM How about actually investing in a public transport system, rather than on ways to bill people (i.e. the new card system they wasted millions on implementing). If you had NS providing a better, cheaper service, more people would use it!! By Caycu | March 9, 2010 3:27 PM Better yet, after they IMPROVE the public transport system, make it FREE to all. Use our taxes for the people and not all these lame and bizarre projects that suck up our money but never get off the ground. By AW | March 10, 2010 8:11 AM I like the idea of moving the cities and towns farther apart. The only problem I see with that is the roads aren't wide enough to move a town on. By Tim Lee | March 10, 2010 3:08 PM They might go for it, Tim. Think of the jobs it would create. By Michael Dawkes | March 11, 2010 7:36 AM

GOD YES!!!! it is not rocket science in two lane roads...you need a third!! i dont say the building many more roads solves the problem but except from taxes some relief should be given to commuters.
