Local elections: turnout similar to 2006

Some 22% of the electorate had cast their ballot in the local elections by 2pm on Wednesday afternoon, according to Nos tv.

The turnout so far is similar to four years ago, pundits said. In Almere, one of two cities where Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration PVV is standing, turnout is around 4% up on 2006.
Earlier polls indicated turnout would be around the 50% mark.
Polling stations will close at 9pm.
