Former tv newsreader stands for parliament

Former tv newsreader and presenter Pia Dijkstra is to run for parliament for the Liberal democratic party D66.

Dijkstra has chaired a government initiative to get more women into top jobs since leaving tv in 2008. She is 16th on the list, meaning she is likely to get a seat in parliament.
Another new D66 candidate is Magda Berndsen, currently chief of the Friesland regional police force. She is second on the list, behind party leader Alexander Pechtold.
