Energy firm Delta in financial trouble

Zeeland energy firm Delta, one of the country’s two big power groups still in public hands, is in financial trouble, the Volkskrant said on Tuesday, quoting company sources.

Sources told the paper the company’s profits have ‘more or less evaporated’, which may have major consequences for its creditworthiness, making it hard to refinance loans and make new investments.
This means Delta may be forced to sell itself to a foreign company, as Nuon and Essent have done, the paper says. Delta has always been adamant that it wants to stay in local authority hands.
Delta is part owner of the Netherlands only nuclear power station at Borssele.
On Monday, Eneco, which is also still state-owned, said its net profit fell by 35% last year.
