Crisis and grid split-off hurt Eneco earnings
Monday 29 March 2010
Power firm Eneco booked net profit of €177m last year, down almost 35% on 2008, the company said on Monday.
Turnover rose 6% to €5.2bn while the number of customers fell by 0.7%.
Eneco said the drop in earnings was due to the economic crisis and the cost of splitting off its delivery and grid operations into a separate company.
Unlike Essent and Nuon which have been sold to foreign companies, Eneco is still in Dutch local and provincial authority hands.

There was a time when NUON was the best. Now NUON is suffering from mismanagement. It is not advisable to change your energy provider to NUON. I did it two years ago and the NUON finance department made me sick for the whole year. I paid them 2000 euro in bills (single person, with minimum energy use) and still paying 1160 euro in instalements. I lost a lot of money, but I am happy to get rid of NUON.
