CDA parliamentary leader to stand down

Pieter van Geel, who leads the Christian Democrats in parliament, is quitting politics at the next general election.
Van Geel has been an MP since 2006. He was junior environment minister in the first two CDA -led governments headed up by Jan Peter Balkenende before becoming an MP.
VVD MPs Johan Remkes, a former junior home affairs minister, and Laetitia Griffith also both said on Tuesday they are standing down at the June 9 general election.
