Essent owned 50% of the Netherlands only nuclear power plant. The other half is in the hands of Zeeland energy firm Delta, which is still state owned.
Delta and a majority of MPs are opposed to the power plant coming under the ownership of a foreign commercial company.
It is not yet clear if RWE will appeal against the decision. The nuclear facility produces around 7% of Holland’s electricity.
