61 parties sign up to contest June election
Friday 19 March 2010
A total of 61 political parties have signed up to take part in the June 9 general election, following a spate of last-minute registrations.
How many parties actually take part will only become clear on April 27, the deadline for submitting candidate lists, news agency ANP said.
At the 2006 general election, 74 parties signed up to take part but only 24 actually competed. The new names include Ik Stem voor Nederland (I vote for the Netherlands) and the Piratenpartij.
