Slippery roads to remain all week

Monday 01 February 2010

Driving conditions on many roads will remain difficult all week because of more snow and night frosts, the KNMI weather bureau said on Monday.

Another front bringing rain and snow is due to hit the Netherlands on Tuesday.

On Monday morning, the A6 between Lelystad and Emmeloord was closed for a time in both directions after it turned into an ice rink. Dozens of drivers were stranded.

In total, there were 571 km of traffic jams at the height of the rush hour, making Monday morning the 10th most congested on record.

According to motoring organisation ANWB, the length and duration of traffic jams in January was up 10% on 2009, because of the continuing wintry weather.
