Iceland seeks to renegotiate Icesave deal

Dutch, British and Icelandic officials met in London on Monday to discuss Iceland’s wish to renegotiate the deal to return money spent on compensating savers who lost millions of euros when internet bank Icesave collapsed.

A five-delegate team led talks at the Icelandic embassy in London, in an effort to head off the March referendum on the deal.
Iceland’s president refused to sign the new law allowing for the repayment of €1.3bn to the Netherlands and ordered a public vote. That vote is likely to go against the deal.
‘At this meeting, the negotiation committee presented a proposal for a new solution to the Icesave dispute,’ Iceland’s finance ministry said in a statement. According to news agency AP, no further details were given.
