The Netherlands picked up its third gold medal of the Winter Olympics on Sunday as Ireen Wüst became the surprise winner of the 1,500m speed skating event.

Wüst completed the distance in 1.56.89, just ahead of Canada’s Kristina Groves and Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic.
Wüst’s victory completed a double in the distance for the Dutch team. On Saturday Mark Tuitert beat Shani Davis of the US to take the men’s title.
Four years ago, Wüst took gold in the 3,000m at the Turin games.
