Speed skater Tuitert takes gold, beats Davis
Speed skater Mark Tuitert took the gold medal in the 1,500m at the Winter Olympics in Canada, beating the US’s hot favourite Shani Davis into second place. Norway’s Harvard Bokko was third.
‘I was focused the whole way,’ a delighted Tuitert told reporters after the event. ‘I had to keep on giving and giving. I had something, it had to happen today.’
It is the first time in 38 years a Dutchman has won the Olympic title over this distance.
