Ban on animal sex abuse passes senate
Tuesday 02 February 2010
The upper house of parliament has voted in favour of a formal ban on the sexual abuse of animals and the making of animal pornography, despite fears the legislation might not be approved.
The Liberals (VVD) and ruling Christian Democrats voted against the ban because they do not think legislation is the best way to tackle the issue, the Telegraaf reports.
The Netherlands currently does allows the sexual abuse of animals unless they can be shown to suffer and, experts say, has consequently become a centre for the production of animal porn.
