Skater Marianne Timmer out of Olympics
Monday 25 January 2010
Speed skater Marianne Timmer is definitely out of the Winter games in Vancouver after failing to qualify for the 1,000 meters at the weekend.
Timmer, 35 and the defending 1,000 meter champion, was injured in a fall during last year which left her with several heel fractures. But she recovered sufficiently to make a last-ditch attempt to make the team.
Timmer planned to officially retire from competitive skating after the Vancouver Games, which would have been her fourth Olympics.
