Senior Rotterdam police officer quits
Thursday 21 January 2010
A senior Rotterdam police officer resigned on Thursday with immediate effect after failing to inform the city's mayor about an event involving Feyenoord football fans at the weekend, the NRC reports.
Henk de Jong, a member of the city's police force management team charged with information and operations, stood down after it emerged he had kept quiet about a New Year's drink organised by football fans in a city centre cafe.
Rotterdam mayor Achmed Aboutaleb came under fire last year because police chiefs had not told him soon enough about problems at a beach party which was disrupted by football hooligans. The police promised improvements in the provision of information to the mayor.
According to the Telegraaf, there were no incidents of note during the fans' celebration last weekend.
