Local elections: Labour leader takes over

Thursday 21 January 2010

Labour leader Wouter Bos is to take centre stage in television debates during the local election campaign, rather than the parliamentary party leader Mariëtte Hamer, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.

Bos, who as finance minister is part of the cabinet, took a low profile during last June's European election, at which the party's vote collapsed.

But the Labour party did very well in the 2006 local elections during which Bos led the campaign.

Traditionally, parliamentary party leaders represent their respective parties in the local election campaign.
