Holland has own 'most wanted' list

Wednesday 06 January 2010

Photographs of the Netherlands eight 'most-wanted' criminals appear on a police website launched on Tuesday night in an effort to reach a broader public than the traditional wanted posters in police stations.

The eight include Dino S, last week sentenced to eight years in jail for drugs running and wanted on suspicion of involvement in two gangland killings, and a Belgian man wanted for child rape. The others are wanted for murder, armed robbery and drugs offences.

The website does not detail rewards for help in their capture. 'We want to avoid a witch hunt' public prosecution department spokesman Gabriel Munnichs told the Volkskrant, adding that bounty hunting is not Dutch.

According to the Telegraaf, suspects can be included on the website if they are wanted in connection with a crime with a jail term of at least eight years.
