Terrorist suspect passed Schiphol security

The 23-year-old Nigerian suspected of trying to blow up a plane from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day did undergo a security check at Schiphol aiport after arriving on a flight from Lagos, reports the Volkskrant website on Saturday.

Following its initial investigation, the Dutch anti terrorism office NCTb says the control was carried out according to protocol, according to the Volkskrant. Passengers transferring to flights for the US are checked at a security gate close to the departure gate.
Nevertheless, the man seems to have been able to get explosive material through security.
‘No irregularities were detected at the security checkpoint,’ says the NCTb, adding that it is not possible to completely prevent potentially dangerous objects being taken on board, especially when these are difficult for metal detectors to identify.
The terrorist suspect, Farouk Abdulmutallab, spent three hours at Schiphol waiting for his connecting flight to the US. According to the NCTb he had a valid visa for the US.
Both the NCTb and the military police are carrying out investigations into the ‘operational procedures’ relating to the flight to Detroit, says the Volkskrant.
