Police can't find source of DSB bank leak

Wednesday 16 December 2009

Detectives have failed to find the source of the leak about DSB bank's financial problems, just prior to its collapse in October, finance minister Wouter Bos told MPs on Wednesday.

The leak came as Bos, central bank officials and representatives from the big Dutch banks held crisis talks about a rescue package for DSB, which was on the verge of collapse.

But news of the talks and an appeal to have DSB placed under central bank control was leaked to the media, leading to a further run on the bank.

DSB bank boss Dirk Scheringa accused finance ministry or central bank officials of being behind the leaks.

Bos told MPs some 500 people were either involved in the talks or could make a reasonable guess at what was going on over the weekend in question.

Bos said he had not yet read the final report but that he assumed not enough information had come to light to warrant anyone's prosecution.
