Netherlands generous in taking refugees

Tuesday 08 December 2009

The Netherlands gave 6,100 people full refugee status last year, making it one of the most generous countries in the EU, according to figures from the European statistics office Eurostat.

France, Germany, Britain, Italy and Sweden all granted more asylum seekers refugee status than the Netherlands. The Netherlands honoured 52% of requests for asylum, compared with 28% in Europe as a whole.

In total, 76,300 people were given refugee status in Europe last year out of nearly 300,000 requests. Most came from Iraq (22%), followed by Somali (12%) and Russia (10%).

I don't understand why Muslim refugees are given preferential treatment? There seems to be an imbalanced proportion of accepting Muslim refugees; to the extent of discriminating non-Muslim ones. Such as the Christian Karen Burmese refugees and Buddhist Tibetan refugees, where many are suffering and being discriminated in camps in Nepal, India, Thailand and Malaysia! By such imbalance, Europe is making a grave mistake of letting Islamic culture, particularly of Arabic led/constructed, more dominant and aggressive in the mostly Christian West! This needs to be said frankly!

I wonder what the numbers are on people seeking asylum in Netherlands from either UK, or Ireland, or any other EU country, on physical medical health (or even Severe Mental Incapacity) reasons ?

Generous?? In Italy greece and spain there is a huge wave of people that want to come to main europe and these 3 countries because of Dublin II they are obliged to keep them. Illegal immigrants arriving through turkey and africa. I like the word generosity when it comes to human souls. Shame for the article. and EU is even denying the right to mediteranean countries to give green cards to all these people..because with these green cards they can travel all over EU. Hypocricy at its best.

The news's heading "Netherlands generous in taking refugees" is misnomer. The Dutch government has accepted only a large portion of muslim refugees, only to appear nice to the eyes of the world people. however, peaceful and genuine Tibetan refugees are neglected. There are many Tibetans who are waiting for government's help for many years. they are in pathetic condition.
