Central bank knew about DSB charges: FD

The central bank was aware of the high charges levied by DSB bank on single premium annuities back in 2008, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Thursday.

The paper bases its claims on a letter from the central bank warning DSB bank that the size of the charges would be public from 2009 because of changes in legislation. ‘This structure will be no longer sustainable,’ the FD quoted the central bank as saying.
DSB collapsed in October following a run, triggered by clients unhappy at high charges and mortgage over-selling. An investigation into the role of the central bank in the collapse is one of several under way.
The FD says no where in the letter does the central bank condemn the charges on moral grounds. In some cases customers were being charged 60% fees over their annuities.
