Wilders 'is undermining democracy': report

Monday 02 November 2009

Geert Wilders' PVV party is an 'extreme right-wing' grouping and a threat to social cohesion and democracy, according to a report on radicalism in the Netherlands by three academics for the home affairs ministry, the Volkskrant reported at the weekend.

The report, which is not yet finalised, looks at polarisation and radicalism in the Netherlands. Ministers and the researchers are still discussing the final changes but sources say ministers want to water down the conclusions because of the political sensitivity, the paper says.

As it now stands, the report describes the PVV as an 'extreme right-wing party which is mobilising anti-Islam sentiment and hatred of governmental system', theVolkskrant states.

Democracy

‘Wilders creates a certain level of threat,' Edwin Bakker of the Clingendael institute told the paper. 'Not just abroad with his [anti-Islam] film Fitna but because he is mobilising fear in the Netherlands. Wilders is a danger to state security.’

Wilders has reacted furiously to the claims. 'This is the latest scandalous attempt of the elite to demonise the PVV and silence all our supporters,' he told the Volkskrant in a telephone text message. 'If there is anything undermining democracy it is this left-wing elite, including these fake researchers, and Islamisation.'

D66

Alexander Pechtold, leader of the Liberal democratic party D66 and an outspoken critic of Wilders, said: 'Geert Wilders is a racist and on the extreme right. And now finally there is a scientific basis [to prove it].'

The fact that home affairs minister Guusje ter Horst apparently wants to weaken the report's conclusions shows that Wilders is indeed a danger to democracy, he said.

Election success

Integration minister Eberhard van der Laan told De Pers newspaper he too considered the PVV could be dangerous if the party became too big, but that he did not think the party would achieve the election results current opinion polls predict.

The PVV has nine seats in the current parliament but is forecast to be one of the biggest parties after the 2011 general election.

Nevertheless, Van der Laan said he was extremely reluctant to register people's ethnicity or nationality as a policy tool, as Wilders wants. 'It is a question of better safe than sorry,' he told the paper.

Hatred

Wilders told the Telegraaf later both Pechtold and Van der Laan are the 'political accomplices' of Mohammed Bouyeri, the radical Muslim man who murdered film maker Theo van Gogh five years ago.

The two politicians are 'contributing to a climate of hatred and violence against me and the PVV,' he told the paper.

You see, minister Guusje ter Horst is a coward like the PVDA.

What's sad about this attempt to silence Wilders is that it atcually proves his point. Yes, it make things unstable because the radicals he speaks about do not like it and often use deadly violence to silence the critics. This of course is what Wilders warns about. So, these ministers believe Wilders is the problem! Unfortunately history will tell another story.

I am not even a Muslim but I find the Muslim partij the only partij that seems honest and fresh with new ideas. I am a jew and voting for the Muslim partij.

Immigration needs to be discussed openly and if it is not you will find just like in the UK with the British National Party, that eventually more people will vote for the far right because no one else will address the concerns of the native population.

The serious studies I have seen, for example Putnam, confirm that multiculturalism is a disaster, so I wonder why the elite get so upset about Wilders.

I am saddened to read of such a story and to have some consider, write such.
Let Wilders speak of what he wants less anti of what it is he does.
If this is a democracy or a republic there are different points of view that can and must be spoken although we not all might like them.

Pieter,

because Wilders is using uncertainty, legitimate concerns and base human fears to gain support for his disgusting and hatefull agenda.

That should be a concern, because history has proven that people like Wilders if even given half a chance at power will turn such a thing into chaos or worse.

Wilders is becoming exposed for what he is and he can no longer hide behind excuses of unrelated or single incidents or the victim card over personal security to foil the exposure of simple facts. His party platform is unconstitunional and based on exclusion of a segment of society. His platform and propoganda is based on misrepresentation and hate. His party is itself a dictatorship with no internal votes or decision making. His party claims to be a bastion of free speech "no matter what" but will you see him therefore supporting holocaust denial? He must but support it if he wants to not be a hypocrit - but he avoids and runs away. In fact, he has the least time in the Chambers of Parliament and the lowest participation in actual business of government - and he thinks he can run the country.......!

Mr.Geert Wilders is not only undermining the democracy but our beloved country and our nation too!!

He criticise the 'extremist and radical Muslims',while he choose a path of ultra extremist and ultra radical confrontation.

For him politics means Islam Bashing, attacking the prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H, the Quran, the Burqa, the Hoofddoek.

How unfortunate is he that Positive thinking is no where around him, he never talks about the need of Unity as Dutch Nation, respect and love for the fellow human beings.

He never like to learn the lessons of the history where the dictators, fascist leaders, champions of the hate and prejudice were thrown in the trash of the history.

I wish I could ever get an opportunity for a debate with Mr.Geert Wilders to let him know that being an new Dutch/Allochton and a Muslim, how proud I am being a Dutch, to let him know my love for the Dutch Soil and deep routed respect for every body living within the boundaries of our beautiful country.

He has started protesting against hatred and violence against him, but ignores to acknowledge that its him, who have been doing his best to create hate and moral violence in a hope to see the ultimate results like A Civil War!!

I am still ready to hug him with open hart and mind if he from now on rejects his wrong deeds.

Mr.Geert Wilders sooner or later you will have to join us to join hands to struggle for 'One Nation One Country', You will have to condemn racial/religious discrimination if you want to see our country becoming A country playing leading role at this globe in favour of democracy and peace.

And if you are not ready to utilize your positive energy then in that case I assure you that , InshAllah We the Sons and Daughters of the Netherlands in our black, yellow, brown and white skins will unite under the 'red, white and blue' flag to defeat all those who are working against the security of our Motherland and the peace and harmony.

It's already on the wall Mr.Wilders and let me tell you one thing " the brave and the winner is the one who confess his or her blunders and wrong doings (its the quality required to be A Leader)

Its our duty to reject the politics of populism, hatred, apartheid, segregation, threat, violence, and be sure We Will fight democratically, peacefully as law abiding citizens of the Kingdom of the Netherlands!!

Khalid Ahmed Chaudry, I agree with you 100%! We need more people like you to make this world a better place to live.

How sad that an unconscious man with a platform such as the one Wilders has would act out his dysfunctional ego and in doing so spread and incite hate and separatism across this country.

By Sasha | November 3, 2009 8:30 AM

Khalid,

well put but I have a question for you. Note that I am Dutch and ethnically so, a Muslim and living now permanently in Morocco.

Do you consider the burqa Islamic? I do not, many Imams do not. The hijab, yes as it is an item of modesty as prescribed in the Qur'an, the viel or niqab is like the burqa not mentioned in the Qur'an and are considered cultural items.

You may be aware this debate is now raging in Egypt. The Mufti pointed out that only the hijab is really Qur'anic and the rest is cultural and the Government then jumped in quickly banning it from government institutions, offices and schools.

Interested in your opinion. It is an important question, mostly for the western readers of DutchNews, so that they have an understanding that often what is pushed as being Islamic by radical western Muslims are often not important, not accepted or rejected in the majority of Muslim countries in the world. For instance Shari'a is in fact not in the majority of Muslim countries, the concept of a global Caliphate is rejected by all Muslim countries (unless you call Somalia one).

The point here is people like Wilders is a menace, for many reasons as stated above, but also for misrepresenting the real and legitimate fears of westerners and thus by proxy is supporting the views of radical and extremist Muslims groups (or small "i" islamists as I like to call them).

Academics should try working for a living instead of stirring up trouble...

By richard | November 3, 2009 10:29 PM

I think Wilders and the radical Muslim who killed Van Gogh are the same kind of people. They both have little respect for others who are different from themselves.
Confucius said "Tolerance makes great". I have been living in many places in China and Netherlands, meeting all kinds of people speaking all kinds of languages, having all kinds of beliefs. Of course I cannot agree everything with the others, neither can the others. But we are still friends. And most important, we learned from each other. We can discuss sharply on some issues and still be friends because we RESPECT each other. A constructive dialogue can only happen when the counterparts RESPECT each other.

Solkhar, you and Khalid would make fantastic politicians for human rights, you should really consider going into that field of profession.

By sandra | November 6, 2009 6:30 AM

Thanks Sandra, I am retired in Morocco now, but I have done by bit.

Guusje should have his computer hacked-start by modifying the incido program, and work your way to wmplayer. He'll never see it coming. Then she can get tricky and have flying devices circle over Gert's head. This will ensure that any secret movements are captured and logged, saving on personnel and machinery costs. If Gert is a threat to state security, these tactics will surely be successful.
