Stick to H1N1 vaccine rules, doctors toldWednesday 11 November 2009 Health minister Ab Klink on Wednesday urged family doctors not to start vaccinating young children and other people not on the priority list against swine flu (H1N1). Although babies and toddlers are now considered a priority, the local health authorities are organising separate vaccination programmes for them, due to start towards the end of the month. Doctors who break the rules, could end up in front of the medical disciplinary committee, De Pers newspaper quoted the minister as saying. As well as children, some sports men and women, such as the PSV and AZ football teams, have been already vaccinated, against the official guidelines. Klink said there is a risk that there will not be enough vaccine to treat all the priority cases - the elderly, healthcare workers and people with other health problems - if people not on the list jump the queue. The minister has also urged healthcare professionals to get themselves vaccinated even if they don't feel it is necessary. © DutchNews.nl
I guess a simple man with a simple sociology degree would struggle with the complex demands of trying to run a complex Health Care System - and it does seem to be true! Strange that he keeps the elderly on the at risk, priority groups. If one looks at the statistics, the old people's homes have had no cases of H1N1, people in their late 70's and 80's seem to have immunity. In fact, the elderly seem to be the least risk group. Perhaps the minister should look at the little coloured graphs, as they are very simple to understand, before making his priority lists. The peak is now almost over, reminds me of closing the gate after the horse has bolted.
