Security number tattoo call is 'tasteless'

Tuesday 24 November 2009

A number of people living in Amsterdam, the Hague and Leiden have been delivered official-looking leaflets calling on them to have their official BSN number tattooed on their arms as part of an experiment to improve national security.

The leaflets say the tattoos are a 'trial in advance of potential new legislation' and refer readers to their local authority for further information. Only Dutch citizens with the new biometric passports are eligible for the free tattoo, the leaflet says.

A spokesman for the home affairs ministry described the leaflets as tasteless. The tattoo call is reminiscent of the concentration camp numbers tattooed on the arms of Jews during World War II.

According to Trouw, the leaflets appear to have been produced by a pro-privacy group.

What has happened to your once tolerant and fair society? The dark side has reared it's ugly head and has taken the Netherlands to the Netherworld.

I hope this stunt works to raise awareness of how important personal privacy is, and how much it is being eroded by new legislation (especially anti-terror laws)

Security, pull my other leg, it has bells on it!
If the present government really wants to make any improvements regarding security, or any other issue, then I suggest they pack their bags and give the leadership to a party that is interested in HELPING it's people, and not just it's own selfish interests!

We will NOT be forced to wear tattoos, or have compulsory flu vaccinations containing HARMFUL poisons!!!

I find this article most disturbing and an insult to our intelligence!

There should be many more comments here!

Who is this pro-privacy group? Why don't they name it? It must be the dutch goverenment.
You think this is bad...I had a friend visiting me from NZ. She had to fly and stopover in LosAngeles. It was only a stop-over to refuel. They made everyone get off the plane and took their finger prints and eye scans. These people had nothing to do with the US except pass through. There really has to be some voice, a loud voice to bring these invasions of privacy to light before the lambs (sheep) are lead to the slaughter.

"According to Trouw, the leaflets appear to have been produced by a pro-privacy group."

READ people. This was a publicity stunt illustrating the possible worse-case scenario of government invasion of privacy, not a potential government policy.

yeah c'mon people, it's a JOKE, a prank.
understand it, chuckle, mutter to yourself 'those crazy kids these days' and then go on with life.

This might be a joke but the real thing is coming, First finger print in passports, ID cards then micro chip implant. Check it out yourself. you can call yourself 'sheeple' real soon.

In other news, reading comprehension seems to have gone down. A pro-privacy group _supports_ the right to privacy. I think it's a nice stunt, but I wonder how many people actually complained to their gemeente about the "new legislation".
