One in ten ready to work past 65

Wednesday 18 November 2009

Just one in 10 of the working population is prepared to stay on at work past the age of 65, according to research by the national statistics office CBS.

Some 15% of skilled and professional level staff are ready to work longer.

Some 36% of those polled said they expected to work until they reached 65, compared with 21% four years ago.

TNO research last month came up with similar results.

The government is planning to increase the pension age from 65 to 67 by 2027. According CBS in October, only 18% of women and 38% of men who are aged 60 to 65 still have a job. Many have taken advantage of early retirement schemes, introduced in the 1980s to combat high youth unemployment.
