Intruder killed in fight on a farmMonday 09 November 2009 A suspected burglar has died after being stabbed with a garden fork during a struggle with a man staying on a farm he was apparently trying to break into, the Telegraaf reports on Monday. Police are still investigating the incident in the town of Nuenen, just north of Eindhoven in the early hours of Sunday morning. The farm is owned by a brother and sister in their 50s. The sister's friend got into a fight with the intruder although the exact circumstances of the break-in remain very unclear, the Telegraaf says. However, criminal law professor Geert-Jan Knoops told the Telegraaf the couple involved in the struggle will probably face criminal charges. © DutchNews.nl Get the DutchNews.nl newsletter in your mailbox: Click here to subscribe
Let's hope they do not face charges, if the man was a burglar he paid the price for his crime and those protecting themself should not be faulted By bet | November 9, 2009 4:12 PM "While apparently trying to break into a farm, a suspected burglar died because he was stabbed with a garden fork by a man staying there." Your version sounds like the man staying at the farm tried to break into it. By MLV | November 9, 2009 6:00 PM why is it that when a criminal breaks in somewhere and the person or persons in said place defend themselves THEY get into trouble, THIS MUST STOP. investigate of course but if it is found thaat the person was defending themselves then you must NO~T prosecute them, the criminals must be having a field day with our soft laws By adhd | November 9, 2009 6:03 PM "Intruder killed in fight on a farm"...So what! Great legal system. I would rather tell a judge and jury why I defended myself from an intruder who has the potential to kill me or someone in my family. No I would rather go to jail than have someone murder my family. Lets ban garden forks, like guns, they are far to dangerous for the public to have. This way the intruder has a chance in murder someone in their home. By Hiram | November 9, 2009 6:41 PM Jon - ever take a look at the resumes of the cabinet members? As the saying goes, those we can, do; those who cannot, teach. By bobsocks | November 9, 2009 7:36 PM Why on earth would they face criminal charges for what looks like self defense against a home invasion? Is their not a right to self defense in the Netherlands? By Scott | November 9, 2009 8:43 PM Here we go again. By leon belgrave | November 10, 2009 5:43 AM Oh get a grip, you lot. The professor didn't say that the couple deserved to face criminal charges, just that they will probably face them. Which is very normal when a SUSPECTED burglar died, they need to establish exactly what happened in the absence of witnesses. By stingo | November 10, 2009 11:26 AM Place your comments: |

Why is it so that every incident is commented by professors? Are there any specialists, practicing lawyers, judges, criminalists or anyone else besides theoretical field ocupants? Or that's they way things go here- professors say their say, judges do their social work assigings, and police keeps the football fans at the bay?
