'We'll go it alone on bonuses': ministers
Tuesday 08 September 2009
The Netherlands will go it alone to tackle excessive bonuses in the banking sector if the international community fails to reach a deal, finance minister Wouter Bos said on tv programme Nova on Monday night.
'We will not be afraid to take measures ourselves if necessary,' Bos said.
Bos said at the weekend he was disappointed at the compromise measures to deal with excessive bank bonuses agreed by leaders of the world's 20 biggest economies in London.
The Netherlands is not a member of the G20 and Bos was at the London meeting at the invitation of the US. He will also attend the Pittsburgh summit later this month.
