The financial services sector watchdog AFM has begun an investigation into events at brokerage Van der Moolen, which has been under court protection from creditors since last month, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday.

Meanwhile, former Van der Moolen supervisory board member Dolf van den Brink has told several newspapers he quit the company in 2007 partly due to the expenses claims made by former CEO Richard den Drijver who left in July.
According to the Financieele Dagblad, the claims centred on expensive trips and furniture for his New York apartment.
And three months prior to the company applying for protection from creditors, Den Drijver hired a private plane to take guests, friends and staff to a football match in Madrid and Formula 1 race in Monaco, the paper says.
