Health ministry cuts 'won't do the job'

Tuesday 22 September 2009

Health minister Ab Klink's plans to save €1bn on healthcare spending next year will probably not be realised, the government's macro-economic forecasting agency CPB is quoted as saying in Tuesday's NRC.

Klink hopes to save money partly by introducing more market forces into healthcare. He thinks allowing hospitals to compete on price will force down costs which in turn will help pay for the cost of the greying population.

The CPB said that while competition may boost standards it should not be assumed this will lead to lower prices. For example, liberalisation may encourage doctors to carry out more treatments which will lead to an increase in spending overall, the CPB told the paper.

Klink's plans to allow hospitals to pay dividends to private investors in healthcare will also not lead to cost savings, the CPB told the paper.

The Netherlands has a great heath care system. Don't screw it up by imitating the failed thinking and mistakes made in the USA. That would be going backwards.

There will be a big surplus of PvdA politicians after the next elections. They need jobs, and a privatised health sector can provide them. The health sector has the highest bonuses, says an NRC article today.

The Netherlands have a fair health care system when someone thinks how much money and taxes are put into it. Of course all european countries have way better systems then the USA, but we pay much more then them which is fine by me. I would not like my health and my children's health to depend totally on private companies.

The Dutch Health Care System is wonderful - Not! I've been left to die by one of the best in Holland, not once but twice! Thousands of Dutch Nationals have to flee across EU, and outside to get basic care not available in Holland, and pay for it themselves, same as some of us have had to pay for our own care in Holland, care taken away by UK NHS.

The best I've had from Western trained Drs in Holland is tears & sympathy, oh! and telling me to use the, "Shops", like all the other patients (bet this will not be published anyway!) when telling me that there is nothing thy can do to help me, when all I'm asking for is simple basic medical care - yet I can get it from traditional Chinese Drs, by paying again, as it's not covered fully by insurance,
