Tax rate for domestic help slashed

Thursday 27 August 2009

The value-added tax rate on domestic help such as cleaning is to be slashed from 19% to 6% next year, junior finance minister Jan Kees de Jager said on Thursday.

MPs are keen to stimulate the 'personal services' market and hope the cuts will encourage more professional firms to offer home cleaning services, news agency ANP reports.

The cut is also aimed at stimulating people 'at the lower end' of the labour market to find work and boost tax receipts by reducing private households' reliance on informal cleaners who do not declare their earnings.

This is a good step. Expats can have tranquility in using such a service in a legal way with only 6% additional cost
