Four children killed in fire at their home

A forensic investigation has begun into the death of four boys from the same family in a fire at their home in Kampen, near Zwolle, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The children, aged one, four, six and eight, were sleeping in the attic of their terraced home when fire broke out. The children appeared to have died in their sleep, the town’s mayor Jan Oosterhof told a news conference.
Ten other children from the same family and their mother, were rescued. The children’s father works on the inland waterways and was summoned home from Germany. At least one other older child lives elsewhere, according to media reports.
The fire, which appears to have completely destroyed the attic, was brought under control within an hour, Nos tv said. It is thought to have started on the steps leading to the room where the boys slept.
