Swine flu cases rise to over 500

The number of swine flu cases in the Netherlands has risen to over 500, up from 364 on Tuesday, according to the national health institute RIVM on Friday, reports the Trouw.

Some 517 people in Holland now have swine flu, says the RIVM. The most infections are registered in the Amsterdam region (48).
Meanwhile national guidelines setting out when schools should be closed because of an outbreak of swine flu are currently being prepared by civil servants and must be ready before the new academic year starts in August, reports Friday’s Telegraaf.
But a spokesman for health minister Ab Klink stressed that there is no question of schools being closed down at present, the paper said.

The first case of the H1N1 virus in the Netherlands was recorded on April 30.
Earlier this week Belgium announced its first death from the sickness.
