Firm to appeal in Legionaires' disease case

Wednesday 29 July 2009

One of the two companies found responsible for an outbreak of Legionaires' disease in Amsterdam which left two people dead in 2006 is to appeal against the €20,000 fine imposed on it by a court two weeks ago.

Recool’s lawyer Pieter Hoogendam said the company and its director, who was given a three month suspended sentence, that they are not to blame for the outbreak, report various media.

It is unclear if the second company in the case, Axima, which was fined €40,000 will also appeal.

The fines were lower than the public prosecution service had demanded.
