China demo arrests reach 142Tuesday 07 July 2009 Police in The Hague arrested 142 people during a demonstration in front of the Chinese embassy on Monday, news agency ANP reported. Most were arrested for throwing stones at the building. Others tried to climb over the fence surrounding the embassy. Some 100 police officers were involved in the operation. Riot police and dogs were also brought in, ANP reported. One demonstrator was slightly injured but most gave them selves up to police without resistence. Gheyretjan Rozi of the Dutch Uighur Support Group told news agency AP the demonstration was peaceful until protesters saw somebody taking photos of them from inside the embassy. 'Some of the Uighurs got angry. We couldn't control them,' Rozi told AP in a telephone interview from inside a police station. Some 500 to 600 Uighurs live in the Netherlands, he said. The protests follow an outbreak of violence in the western Chinese city of Urumqi. The BBC reports over 150 people have died in clashes with police and 1,400 people are said to have been arrested. The unrest was apparently sparked by a brawl between Uighurs and Han Chinese several weeks earlier in a toy factory thousands of miles away in Guandong province, the BBC said. © DutchNews.nl

Uigurs (or Uygurs) come from Turkish origin and there are 400.000 Turks living in NL. Protests can go extreme if world keeps staying silent.
