Air travel hardest hit by recession

Monday 06 July 2009

The effect of the recession on the Dutch transport sector has hit airlines hardest so far, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

Over the first three months of this year, airline turnover fell 24%, compared with 12% for the transport sector as a whole, the CBS said. Turnover in the inland shipping sector was down 17%.

Considering the downturn in revenue for the airline companies one might expect they would reduce their fares a bit in order to promote an increase in travel. Not the case. Fares are now even more expensive than they were before their troubles.

I agree with Buzzer..... Airlines need to lower the fares, "IF" they want to make a profit!

Let's add the airports too. Taxes most of the times account for 50% or more of the final price, in change of what?!? Poor services or that practical joke they call security check???
