KLM asks pilots to help out with other jobs

Tuesday 09 June 2009

Airline KLM has asked its pilots and cabin crew to help out by doing other jobs during the summer peak period so spending on temporary staff can be cut.

The Telegraaf reported on Tuesday that pilots have been asked to deal with baggage and man the gates and lounges on a voluntary basis.

A spokeswoman for KLM said the reactions had been positive. 'People feel involved and they like the idea,' she said.

why the pilots and cabin crew? what about the CEO, CFO,etc. They should be the first because they receive the highest salaries and bonuses

Just as long as they don't get overworked and too tired to fly the plane. I feel more comfortable knowing that the man or woman flying the plane is 100% focused on the task and not distracted by having to serve coffee, take tickets or check baggage.

I would hope that the Air France-KLM (it's the same company) pilots focus their attention on flying the plane.

Absolutely. Flight safety first and foremost. They want to save some costs by cutting jobs, putting people out to the street and putting passengers' lives at high risk! How ridiculous should they be to sit at the top?
